About this Item

Gus Neubert was likely the only person to ever fire Walter Percy Chrysler (1875-1940). Yet forty years later in his autobiography, Chrysler shares the details of that humiliation in 1895 when he was but 20 years old. Only a few days went by before he was returned to his apprenticeship in the Union Pacific shops in Ellis, Kansas, but he had learned a valuable lesson. Chrysler who went on to become one of the most successful and influential businessmen in U.S. history not only remembered Neubert in his book, but presented his old friend with number 177 of this limited edition of 500 copies. This copy inscribed to Neubert by Chrysler on January 28, of 1938. Deluxe pebbled leather binding with gilt stamped signature of Chrysler on top cover, and smoothed leather on spine with gilt stamped lettering. Top edge is gilded, and others remain un-cut. Leather is rubbed on edges, and spine. There is a one inch square of discoloration on top cover where a label appears to have been removed taking the black dye with it. Recipient has penciled notes on the blank front free end page, and a few in text. Volume remains tight and otherwise clean and intact. Inscription is bright and bold. Bookseller Inventory # 032487
