In 1890, de Longpre vistied the United States on an art commission and decided to settle in New York City. After establishing himself there as an artist, he moved with his wife and daughters to Los Angeles in 1898. Their large, Moorish-style mansion in Hollywood, adjoined by a magnificent garden, soon became the city's most popular tourist destination. Known for his hospitality and debonnair manner, de Longpre became one of Hollywood's first celebrities and was referred to as "Le Roi de Fleurs" (The King of Flowers). Size: 9 1/4" x 12 1/4" Tall.
