An account of the life and times of a bear named Martin, tracing his days and adventures, his joys and misfortunes, and telling of his many friends as his experiences with his tormentors. The first half of the book tells of Martin's life of freedom, from the days of his birth in wilds of the Alps. But Martin is caught by bear hunters, and the story reveals his shifting fortunes, including a period of bleak, muzzled days as a captive traveling show-bear, and finally on to his escape and pleasant golden years in a well appointed zoo. The author, Sir Sainthill Eardley-Wilmot (1852-1929), was a British civil servant, forestry officer, and conservationist who worked primarily in India and Burma. He was also the author of The Life of an Elephant (1875) and The Life of a Tiger (1911). Seller Inventory # 013344
