He was originally intended for the Church, and became Cardinal at the age of 18. When his brother died in 1498, Cesare became the first person in history to resign as cardinal. He then pursued a political and military career under the patronage of his father. His career waned upon the death of his father in 1503, and he died in battle in 1507. He was used as an example by Nicolo Machiavelli in his work, "The Prince". Cesare Borgia was at one time the patron of Leonardo da Vinci. The author of this work is better known as a novelist, and was very popular in the early 20th century with works such as "Captain Blood" and "Scaramouche". Bookseller Inventory # 15060
