Subtitled: Containing his letters from Fort Jefferson, Dry Tortugas Island, where he was imprisoned four years for alleged complicity in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, with statements of Mrs. Samuel A. Mudd, Dr. Samuel A. Mudd, and Edward Spangler regarding the assassination, and the argument of General Ewing on the question of the jurisdiction of the Military Commission, and on the law and facts of the case, also "Diary" of John Wilkes Booth. Nettie Mudd was the daughter of Dr. Samuel A. Mudd. Preface by D. Eldridge Monroe. This is a reprint of the edition originally published by The Neal Publishing Company, 1906; this edition was privately published by Richard D. Mudd, M.D. (1901-2003), the grandson of Dr. Samuel A. Mudd. This edition contains two new chapters: "Descendants of Dr. Samuel Alexander Mudd" prepared by Richard D. Mudd, and "Letters Not in Original Edition--Dr. Mudd's Pardon." There also are two new illustrations: Dr. and Mrs. Richard D. Mudd sitting on the couch on which John Wilkes Booth was examined on April 15, 1865 by Dr. Samuel A. Mudd, and Dr. Samuel A.
