Synopsis: Tegan Broadwater was the consummate outside insider. Pretending to be a high-end cocaine dealer, he infiltrated the deadly Crip street gang, won their trust and embarked on a mission to put them away. Ultimately, it became a dangerous cat-and-mouse game between two men: Tegan, the undercover, and M.D., the cagey drug lord with a street-level MBA. Only one of them would be left standing. LIFE IN THE FISH BOWL is Broadwater’s first-person journey from green patrol cop to gangsters’ friend to Crip-buster, loaded with action and inside information. It’s also a fascinating eyewitness account of clotted police bureaucracy, hierarchical thug life and the hazy netherworld of a man who had to move through both of them. This is an intimate, unflinching, behind-the-lines story of one man’s time in the War on Drugs and gangs, his surprising relationships and emotional attachment toward the ones he sought to stop, and his descent into a life that most people can’t imagine. Tegan Broadwater came out on the other end, a year and a half later, a changed man. He also learned a few things. The purported War on Drugs is still futile, gang life and the violence associated with it can be thwarted, and there is a dire need for strategically mentoring the children who become inadvertent victims in these operations. Breaking the cycle of violence, removing of the acceptance of young, urban youth from having multiple children without a life plan, and mentoring children of incarcerated parents is THE best place to start a true war against gang and drug violence on our American streets. “For me there's no more compelling reading than books written by cops who can write. An undercover cop who captures the real drama of what it is like to act for your life is the most ‘unputdownable’ of all. This, in particular, is must reading for every cop in or out of uniform. Tegan Broadwater taught me a few things that are going into my lesson plan for ‘Undercover Survival Tactics.” Mike Levine, author of NY Times Bestseller “DEEP COVER" and national bestseller “THE BIG WHITE LIE.” “Life in the Fish Bowl” is a gripping story of a Fort Worth undercover narcotics police officer’s determination to rid his city of a violent organized gang, which was terrorizing and murdering innocent people. Tegan Broadwater, a “clean looking” tall white guy, spent a year and a half risking his very existence while finding a way to infiltrate a local black Crip Gang notorious for dope trafficking throughout the country. He was determined and personally committed to making a difference – to having an impact on the operation of this vicious generational cycle of gang violence in Fort Worth. This is a book that should be read by all. It was written with passion, by the person on the scene, who found a way to live within the real world of crime that exists inside the towns and cities of America. Gene Cernan Commander, Apollo XVII Fiction writers and those who write for the silver screen rack their brains to come up with exciting plots and true adventure. Tegan Broadwater lived a life of adventure in the dangerous world of drug trafficking and brings his experiences to the pages of an excellent book. Often the valiant officers that risk their lives on a daily basis must rely upon on their savvy and wits to survive the day. This book gives us great insight into these officers. A great read and textbook for those who will follow him. Danny O. Coulson Commander, FBI Hostage Rescue Team, Retired Tegan Broadwater is the insider's insider, and he has written this story with deep knowledge that he won the hard way. His account of infiltrating a murderous drug gang is told with a winning combination of smarts, insight and edge-of-the-seat action. Anyone who wants to understand how this slice of the world really works can find the answers here, along with a cracking good tale. Doug J. Swanson, Author of "Blood Aces," a biography of racketeer Benny Binion.

About the Author: TEGAN served as a Fort Worth Police Officer for 13 years. His tenure included stints with two Fort Worth Narcotics Units, the Tarrant County Narcotics Unit, the Fort Worth Gang Unit, and the FBI’s Gang & Violent Crimes Task Force. He also worked and investigated cases with the DEA, Secret Service, and ATF. In 2001, he provided protection for the United Nations Building, and protected people and supplies into "Ground Zero" in New York City during the September 11th catastrophe. During his law enforcement career, Tegan has safely executed over 5000 arrests and created, prepared and served over 500 dynamic, high-risk search warrants. Tegan received dozens of commendations and awards during his tenure as a police officer. Among those, a Certificate of Merit for tracking, locating and seizing C-4 explosives during a gang retaliation plot, two awards presented by then Texas Senator Mike Moncrief for his work at “Ground Zero”, and he was nominated four times for the Fort Worth Police Department’s Officer of the Year award. For his deep undercover work in Operation Fish Bowl, a self-initiated project turned massive FBI operation that sentenced 41 violent Crip gang members to a total of 629 years of prison time, Tegan earned the United States Attorney Commendation Award, and the Fort Worth Police Department’s Officer of the Year award. Additionally, Operation Fish Bowl was nominated for the F.B.I.’s Overall Case of the Year. In May of 2008, in search of a new way to change lives for the better, Tegan left the police department and founded Tactical Systems Network, LLC in Fort Worth, Texas; a faith-rich, personal protection, security, investigative and consultancy firm that provides high-level services to executives, Fortune 500 companies, police agencies, religious organizations, schools and universities, politicians and celebrities. Tegan has authored this book detailing his experiences from inside this CRIP organization with a personal emphasis on true long-term solutions to gang and narcotic trafficking violence on American streets. “Helping children of incarcerated parents break the cycle of violence and removing the acceptance of having multiple children without a life plan is the end goal.” All book sale profits are donated to charities that mentor children of incarcerated parents.
