The Irish expatriot Blennerhasset financed Burr in expeditions to New Orleans and elsewhere, 1805-1807, which were organized to form a separate nation headquartered in New Orleans and/or to engage the Spanish in a war in the West. Burr was charged with treason for these actions, but acquitted. Embossed cloth cover with gilt coat of arms (?) on front, gilt lettering on spine. Ex-lib (catalog no. on spine, perforated lib. i.d. on title p. with withdrawal stamp); ends of spines and corners bumped and/or rubbed through to boards, some bleached marks on back cover. Very interesting notes of former owner(s) inside covers, including one by H. Stahl noting, "bought in summer of 1864," clipped picture of Aaron Burr pasted on front free endpaper.
