About this Item

"Early in the Revolutionary War Colonel Humphreys became attached to General Putnam's staff as Major, to whom he subsequently showed his gratitude by writing this essay on his life. It is a smooth and complimentary piece of biography, which certainly anticipates no modern doubts as to the bravery of "Old Put" (Sabin). 16mo. Frontis., 285, [1 (blank)] pp. Sabin 33806; Shaw & Shoemaker 23067. Removed from a nonce volume. Ex-Mercantile Library copy with charge pocket and slip on rear endpaper. Front endpaper loose. Frontispiece foxed and with lower margin torn away (without affecting engraving). Leaves browned, a few spots inside. Bookseller Inventory # 4159
