Add to basketThis Memoir of the Rev Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (1832 1898), better known as Lewis Carroll, the author of 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' and 'Alice Through the Looking-Glass', was written by his nephew, Stuart Dodgson Collingwood. With unrestricted access to his uncle's Journal and correspondence, the Memoir was first published in the year of Lewis Carroll's death, 1898. This compact edition published by Thomas Nelson & Sons is undated, but can be dated to c.1910 by reference to the known dates of publication of some of the other new books listed in the publisher's inventory. Hardback in overall good condition. Cover in blue cloth, marked on front, decorative impressed design on front, spine titles in faded gilt, bumped at top and bottom of spine and at corners. Binding firm apart from exposure between penultimate pages of Appendix (list of other recent publications). Text (372 pp) very good. Top edges gilt-edged. Illustrated with photographic portrait Frontispiece, and in text with line drawings from Lewis Carroll's own letters and a facsimile copy of an illustrated letter from the most famous illustrator of the 'Alice' books, Sir John Tenniel, dated 1870.
