Title continued: "Addenda: containing a brief history of the Seminole War, and cession and government of Florida." "3d ed. Rev. and cor. by the author." 335 p.: frontispiece portrait; 18 cm. Contemporary full calf with six spine compartments between double gilt-rules; red morocco spine label in second compartment. Gilt-tooled spine title: Life of Jackson. Portrait is engraved on steel by C.G. Childs, Philadelphia, after a painting by J. Wood. It is titled: "Protector & Defender of Beauty & Booty." Chapters 1 to 4 were written by Major John Reid, an eye-witness of the events related: chapters 5 to 11 were written by Eaton, based on the papers and notes left at Reid's death. (cf. Preface to 1st edition, Philadelphia, 1817 p. v). In Very Good Condition: leather is rubbed; leather is just starting to separate over back joint at tail of spine; edge of spine label chipped without loss of lettering; small dampstain at upper edge of first few pages, including title page, without touching text; foxing throughout; pages otherwise clean.
