A tight, handsome fourth edition (first published 1940) of what the front jacket panel describes as "The Essence of the Four Gospels -- in the words of Christ Himself. The first publication of this moving story in modern dress." This copy bears interesting autograph addition: Tipped at front is a special heavy sheet signed large and bold by famed Jefferson scholar Dumas Malone (1892-1986), author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning six-volume "Jefferson and His Time" (1948-81). Jacket front panel title: "The Jefferson Bible." According to front jacket flap, "Thomas Jefferson. selected the words of Christ -- and Christ alone -- from the Bible for his own use. He clipped and pasted them in sequence in a blankbook.
