This is apparently the first printing issued, as it indicates only Trumbull as printer, with no other publishing data. 108pp. B/w frontispiece of Potter with a child walking beside him entitled, "Old chairs to mend." Front free endpaper has a gift inscription, "a present for Daniel Pearce from his grandmother - 1835 May 12th" in fountain pen. Front endpaper has former owner's name Daniel Pearce (also in fountain pen). Rear free endpaper has "Daniel Pierce His Book 1842" in pencil in a child's handwriting - note the spelling of Pearce is different than that of those on front endpapers (that page has a large piece torn out from it). Front free endpaper is torn from top to center hinge and was repaired with clear tape that has slightly yellowed (the rear of that page is the frontispiece). Title page has a 3-inch tear from bottom gutter toward center that was repaired on revers with clear tape that is also slightly yellowed. Page 81 has a small tear near bottom with no loss of text. Entire book has moisture staining on numerous pages, but there is no mold. A few pages have creased corners. Text block edges are soiled also. Rear endpaper has a 1/2-inch x 2-inch piece of surface paper missing. Rear cover has been vertically creased (bent). Marbled boards are rubbed and chafed. Leather spine has a one-inch piece missing near bottom, and bottom spine has been reinforced with clear tape. Selling online since 1999. Quick shipping; Secure packing; Free tracking!.
