Fourth edition. 4" x 6 3/4" book bound in the original calf leather. 298 pages plus a one page ad at the rear. A Poor copy. The binding is cracked and sections of the text are detached but included. The book will need to be re-bound. Both spine tips are covered with an old pieces of brown cloth book tape. Spine shows some leather chipped away and all five pieces of the rope band are exposed. Leather is also rubbed at the corners. Missing the front fly leaf. There is tanning to the edges of the title page but otherwise unmarked with no foxing. Johnson's first major biography, first published anonymously in 1744, this edition is the first with the additional material on Sir Francis Drake and Admiral Blake. Seller Inventory # 59020
