Temple Classics edition - first thus in six volumes. xxxvi, 331pp.; [iii], 364pp.; [iii], 359pp.; [iii], 365pp.; [iii], 360pp.; [iii], 329pp. There is a tissue-guarded frontispiece to each volume. Top edges gilt. The Temple Classics series ran from 1896 to 1955, and predated Dent?s Everyman?s Library by a decade. A significant number of titles were incorporated into Everyman?s. These six volumes contain Boswell's Life of Samuel Johnson, first published in two volumes in 1791. The four volumes are uniformly bound in the original limp olive-green full leather covered boards with gold titling and designs on the spines and a blind stamped gold emblem on the front boards. The leather on volume 5 is a brighter shade of green than the other five volumes. The cases of the books are in very good condition with a little light scuffing to the leather on the boards and the spines are browned, apart from volume 5. There is wear to the leather on the spine ends, apart from volume 5, and there is some damage with a little loss to the leather at the top of the spine of volumes 1, 2 and 6. The contents are tight and clean and the original red marker ribbons are present but frayed and faded at the ends. There is no inscription. Seller Inventory # gNet050
