Frontis. xii, 451pp. 12mo, contemporary 3/4 brown morocco, morocco lightly worn, edges of boards worn, front flyleaf expertly repaired, small newspaper article and plate of the Pepperell House mounted on last two blank pages. New York: Hurd and Houghton, 1869. First Edition Presentation copy from the author to her daughter. William Jarvis, a merchant from Boston, was United States Consul to Portugal from 1802 to 1811. His daughter writes extensively on his time in Portugal. Right before William Jarvis returned to the United States, he had merino sheep smuggled out of Spain to Vermont. Jarvis introduced the widespread raising of merino sheep in Vermont. Bookseller Inventory # 260228
