Description:

This copy from a private collection, was published prior to 1900 but has no year. There is a colophon which indicates a first edition, pages are somewhat darkened but foxing is not present and the corners are sharp. Green with gold embossed lettering, author's signature appears on ffep: "Frank Pattison, from his own friend and his father's friend - Henry Tomkins with affectionate remembrance and the best of wishes - Park Lodge, weston Super Mare =April 19th, 1906". Tipped into the book are a folded paper. inside of which is a hymn "Not for Conquest's Sinful splendours", "A Hymn for Soldiers of the Empire" in which the words are written by Tomkins. The top line of the "Cover" reads "Sold for the Benefit of our South African Refugees. There is no date present, but it appears to be the same age as the book. The edges are curled and worn. Also present are three reprinted sermons by Dr. G. Campbell Morgan, titled "Joseph 1. The Dawn and the Darkness (June 2nd, 1911) , Joseph II. - The Clouded Forenoon, (June 9th 1911, and III - The Day and the Sunshine" June 23rd, 1911. There is no writing in the text, a bookmark printed by the Religious Tract society is present. Solid, old, very unusual. Bookseller Inventory #
