Wright 3, 6011, 2 locations only. Covers etched and soiled. Inside clean and very good. This unusual book is a novel based on the experiences of immigrants to Whitehall and their suffering during the year of the terrible ship fever, 1847. It was written in 1849 and first appeared in a local newspaper. This edition contains 25pp. of illus. advts. and 41 plates of portraits and depictions of Whitehall buildings and scenes (mostly photos). The publisher notes the changes that have transformed Whitehall in the half-century since Wilson's story was written -- the "refining influences of a progressive civilization.".
