About this Item

As a prelude to the presidential campaign of 1848, an attempt was made to publicize Taylor's military victories, of which this life of him is an example. The first map shows the battle of Palo Alto and the battle of Resaca and Palma while the second map shows the route of the invading army into Mexico. A "Facsimile of the letter from Genl. Taylor to Hon. A.H. Mickle, Mayor of N. York" has been affixed to the half title. 8vo. 56 pp. 2 fold-out maps. Good. Stitched; without wrappers. Corners bumped; shallow tattering to some leaves; chip out of lower outer corner of letter facsimile letter without loss of text. Outer pages, letter facsimile, and the edges of some pages soiled. Foxing on first map; occasional spots of staining, not obscuring text. Bookseller Inventory # 2396
