About this Item

Introduction by Harry Rosecrans Burke. Small 4to. Full blue leatherette with gilt lettering, brown leatherette slipcase. xxvi, 50pp. Frontispiece, illustrations. Near fine/near fine. Edition limited to 898 numbered copies (this #507) with reproduced illustrations. (Another, smaller edition of 122 numbered copies bears original etchings.) Handsomely signed and inscribed by the publisher in black ink on the front flyleaf: "For / Dr & Mrs CE Trovillion / from / Violet & / Hal W Trovillion / on the occasion of / their golden wedding / anniversary / August 19, 1945." Hal W. Trovillion (1879-1967) and wife Violet (1890-?) founded this small but interesting press in 1908. Dr. C.E. Trovillion (1867-1952) of Alton served as the managing officer of Illinois state hospitals; how he was related to the publishers is unknown, but with this unusual name chances are he was a relative.
