Includes a superb autograph addition: Tipped to the inner flyleaf of Volume 1 is a choice Typed Letter Signed from Williams, 1p, 8" X 11", Bloomington, IN, 1951 September 25. Addressed to noted Civil War scholar, radio pioneer and Broadcast Music, Inc. president Carl Haverlin (1899-1985). Very good. Cordial note to this New York City Civil War Round Table officer, on "Indiana University" letterhead. Reads in part "I. feel very grateful to you both for your personal interest in my book as well as the kind invitation you conveyed to me as president of the Civil War Round Table of New York. I have no plans about being in New York. I shall keep you in mind, however, and whenever I get over to New York, if it should be for more than a very brief stay. would like to have the chance to meet you, even though it might not be possible to attend one of your meetings. I always take great pleasure in making the acquaintance of any persons who are interested in the Civil War." Signed boldly in full in blue fountain pen.
