Handsome, tight second printing of this hefty and outstandingly illustrated study, with an interesting background: Freeport, Illinois, site of one of the Lincoln-Douglas Debates, commissioned a life-size sculpture of the event that was unveiled in 1992. Sculptor Lilly Tolpo (b. 1917), wife of the noted sculptor/painter Carl Tolpo (1901-76), was hired by a Freeport City Council committee headed by councilwoman Mickey Martin -- this is the book presented to Tolpo by a grateful Martin.
