About this Item

8vo. Grey cloth, pictorial dust jacket. xiii, 198pp. Fine/near fine. A tight and handsome first edition of this compilation of Lincoln's writings about himself -- with one unique twist: Tipped to front flyleaf is the custom Lincoln-theme Bernhardt Wall-designed bookplate of RALPH G. NEWMAN (1911-98), founder of Chicago's well-known Abraham Lincoln Book Shop, who in 1975 compiled an earlier version of this type of title, "Abraham Lincoln: His Story in His Own Words." Newman's bookplate is a superb example of the engraver's art. Bookseller Inventory # 38867

From the Publisher:

"The autobiography Lincoln never had the chance to write. The way in which Zall has blended together various sources is very clever."--James McPherson

“A must read for every Abraham Lincoln fan.”—Beattyville Enterprise, Manchester Enterprise, Pineville Sun, Berea Citizen, Booneville Sentinel, Jackson Times

“An artful biography of Lincoln . . . spliced together from interview, memoir, and speech excerpts, but always in the slain president’s own words.”—Civil War Book Review
