About this Item

First edition. Hardcover. viii+ 272 pp. with index, bibliography, appendix of Court meeting places and Lincoln's appointments. Fine, tight example in very good dust jacket. Highly regarded study of the Supreme Court under Abraham Lincoln and the changes and appointments he would make during the Civil War. Lincoln had lashed out at teh Supreme Court in this first inaugural address, when there existed one vacancy soon to be followed by two more. How he filled these posts, how the Court was attacked by the Radicals and how the Court decided a number of vital cases during the War are some of the topics expertly examined by the author.
