Previous owner was Burton Benedict (1923-2010), a professor emeritus of social anthropology at University of California, Berkeley and former director of the Phoebe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology. Benedict conducted his early anthropological fieldwork in the Indian Ocean island territories of Mauritius and Seychelles. No other markings in book. Binding is tight. Lightly read. DJ with small nicks and chips from shelf wear. From the DJ flap: Author was one of the social anthropologists whom the Australian Government enabled to study the tribes of the Central Highlands of New Guinea; and it was while the Australian Government was still engaged in bringing that area under its administrative control that he did the original research on which this book is based.
