He attended Petersburg schools and graduated in 1949. He then worked summers at the cold storage. Don went to a trade school after graduation learning the refrigeration trade: He was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps in January, 1952 and served o two years '-with the 12th Marines of the Third Marine Division. He worked in the refrigeration trade in San Diego upon discharge. Don resumed working at the Petersburg Cold Storage in April 1957, becoming foreman in 1961 and manager in 1976. In April 1981, he started work on the Icicle Seafoods tender Kupreanof where he spent 12 years.This is his story but it is also a comprehensive history of Petersburg and its citizens. Don married Betty Conine Tennison on November 23, 1961 and they had two children, Carol and John. He retired in March 1993, and, except for spending three to four months a year at his home in San Diego and four or five weeks a year with his six grandchildren in Juneau, Don arid Betty live in Petersburg Alaska.
