About this Item
Chromolithograph cover & frontis; woodcuts; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 120 pages; HC in original chromolithograph illustrated boards backed with pebbled gold 1/4 cloth. Presumably a 2nd edition after an earlier 1885 imprint. Particularly noteworthy for the inclusion of a 2 page piece with a full page illustrated plate on "How to Play Lacrosse" - a game which was just gaining some favor as a team sport in the mid 1880's. The first American college game was not played until 1887 and not introduced to high school level until 1882. This copy snugly bound and clean with light shelf rubbing to cloth at spine ends and to boards at corner tips. Light foxing to endpages. Chromolitho frontis and woodcut and toned litho illustrations throughout. Handsome copy. VG. Seller Inventory # 36065
