About this title

Synopsis:

Pierre and Henri find themselves in trouble when Henri allows the cow to taste Uncle Benjamin's blackberry birthday cake, thus turning the plodding bovine into an icing junkie.

From School Library Journal:

Kindergarten-Grade 2-- After baking a blackberry cake for his uncle's birthday, Pierre and his helper, Henri the pig, set out to deliver it on their tricycle. On the way, they happen upon the local policeman whose car has a flat tire. While Pierre and Mr. Cotton work on the tire, Henri and the cake wait in the vehicle; it rolls down the road and crashes into a truck. That leads to the discovery of the truck's contents, a cache of stolen goods. Pierre and Mr. Cotton arrive on the scene just in time to apprehend the truck's owner; Pierre and Henri get to Uncle Benjamin's only to learn that his birthday is still three days away and that they have time to bake a new cake. This unlikely adventure is illustrated in soft, warm earth tones, fine lines, and great detail. Round figures are generally viewed from above, providing a panoramic view on each spread. Humor is added to the predictable story by the cozy illustrations and by the occasionally interesting use of language. --Maria B. Salvadore, District of Columbia Pub . Lib .

Store Description

ThriftBooks was started in July 2003 in a storage unit in Kirkland, WA, with a commitment to provide quality, cheap, used books at the lowest prices anywhere. Just two months after founding the company, the first book was purchased and shipped: Charlotte's Web, by E. B. White, for $4.74. With warehouses distributed across North America, we have brought scale and innovation to processing and selling used books, allowing us to continually grow selection and ship even faster to ThriftBooks customers. While cutting edge pricing technology and the latest supply-chain methods allow us to serve you better, it's our people that make the difference at ThriftBooks. Each quality, used book is saved, sorted, rated, shelved and finally, shipped by hand. You can have confidence that the quality book you choose will be sent to you, unless our software tells us that a superior quality copy can be shipped to you more efficiently; then we'll give you an upgrade at no charge. ThriftBooks has been featured for pioneering methods in online used book selling in many publications, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Seattle Times, Puget Sound Business Journal and The Software Development Times. As we grow, we continue to work with literacy and environmental charities to share our love of reading without impacting our landfills.
