Description:

Nice example of the scarce first edition. The number D105 appears on the front endflap along with the original one dollar price. The book itself is tightly bound and very clean inside and out with just some rubbing to the bottom edges from having been slid in and out of the shelf. The dustjacket, as stated, has not been price-clipped, but does show two tears on front, both repaired by me on revrse side with archivl tape. jacket has also been placed in brand new mylar cover. This beloved tale was originally written for radio and was narrated by Helen Hayes. Later Loretta Young recorded it for Decca. Its first appearance in print form was in Coronet Magazine and it was published as a book by Children's Press in 1946. Charming art in color by Katherine Evans. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
