About this title

Synopsis:

Littlest Hatchling Grows Up: Educational, Entertaining Sci-Fi, for readers 9 - 90; examines juvenile and adult life stages of Kemps ridley sea turtles. Littlest Hatchling and friends are juveniles preparing to embark on their first migration. Share their quest to learn sea-life skills needed for survival in the Gulf of Mexico. Join their annual, adventurous migrations.
From Texas coastal waters, Gulf of Mexico currents carry them to Florida, up the Atlantic Coast, and their return. Will these plucky, Kemps ridley sea turtles, the smallest of all sea turtles, continue to survive in an ever-changing sea world?

About the Author:

Ms. Holmes grew up in coastal Massachusetts towns; for 42 years she lived in New Hampshire with her husband and daughters. After her husband's death, she moved to Hawaii. There she learned about the threatened green sea turtles she sometimes encountered while snorkeling. Moving to South Texas in 2005, she soon heard of the rare and endangered Kemp's ridley sea turtles. The more she learned about efforts being made to reverse their diminishing numbers, the stronger became the urge to write their story from their perspective. The characters are fictionalized; the science, biology and environmental issues are true.
