About this Item

First Edition. Octavo. Author's introductory card and footnote sheet laid-in. Text in French. More radical than the most radical art criticism, this is an in-depth examination of the concepts and structures which form the discourse surrounding art. This "anti-book" (so-called because its lack of any information on the covers was intended to render the book invisible to booksellers) was hailed as a manifesto for total art. On the introductory card, new-realist Pierre Restany writes (translated from the French) "[it is a book to be] taken, abandoned, retaken and jettisoned." Gently bumped at the spine head, very small tear to the top edge, some soiling to the back wrapper, else near fine in completely blank off-white wrappers (as published). Rare.
