This 6.5 x 9.5, xi, 371-page book is the 1964 stated first printing of this title. The book itself is in near fine condition with the burgundy cloth covering showing virtually no wear or damage. There is a touch of crinkling to the foot and crown of the spine and the most minor bumping to the two bottom corners but beyond that the cover is in near fine condition. Internally the book shows just a penciled notation on the ffep but there are no additional condition issues to mention. The book is highlighted by several sections of photographs, and some detailed maps help to illustrate the books information. The dust wrapper is now protected in a mylar cover. The jacket itself does show some sunning discoloration and there are chips and one 'v' tear to the top edge. The bottom edge shows some chipping at the spine and wear along the folds but again the jacket is fully intact and is in at least very good condition. This book was long held as one of the best treatments of the plains indian story until further scholarship came along in the 1970's and 1980's. 371 pages.
