Synopsis: Introduces, in simple text and illustrations, the physical characteristics, habits, and natural environment of a variety of dinosaurs.
From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-Grade 3 This simple introduction to dinosaurs contains information about both popular dinosaurs, such as Tricer atops, and more obscure dinosaurs, such as the Chinese Yangchuano saurus. The book covers a few basics of paleontology, describing how fossils are discovered, and how dinosaurs may have become extinct. New theories about dinosaurs' link to birds and their care of their young are also mentioned. The illustrations are realistic, more so than Gail Gibbons' drawings in Dino saurs (Holiday, 1987). But unlike Gib bons' book, the only aids to the pronun ciation of the dinosaurs' names here are hyphens between syllables of bigger words. The index and glossary make the information accessible, although probably not enough information is provided to make this a useful book for school reports. It would work best as a read-aloud book for a young audience or as a browsing book for young dino saur fans. Cathryn A. Camper, Min neapolis Public Library
