About this Item
This is the only book written on this Union General. Neglee graduated from West Point in 1835 and shortly after resigned his commission and became a Civil Engineer. He served as a volunteer officer in the Mexican War and was sent to California. In the Civil War he led a brigade in the Peninsula Campaign. He was made a division commander later and served in North Carolina and in 1863 he commanded the VII Corps and District of Virginia. Naglee was not a fan of the Lincoln Administration. He left the army in 1864 and campaigned for George McClellan for president. The first letter is from 1858 and the last letter is dated in 1864. The book was published by a spurned lover after Naglee married another lady. Good- copy of the first edition. The book has shelf wear, wear to the top and bottom tabs of the spine and the front hinge is weak. Additionally there are some pages with foxing. 182 pages. Seller Inventory # 25057
