About this title
Jill Chan's fifth collection of poetry is a sequence on love--the many sides of romance, the depths of longing, and other subtleties in between.
"There was this sound
then nothing after;
then what quickened you;
a style then
how we stood aside
like a generous condemnation,
at something gone,
never to be confused
again with coming."
Jill Chan writes poems and fiction. Her work has appeared in various New Zealand literary magazines (and anthologies) both in print and online; in websites in the US, UK, Italy, Hong Kong, and Australia; and in the New Zealand Poetry Sound Archive. She has read at an Amnesty International benefit reading alongside established poets, and at various National Poetry Day events. She is the author of five collections: The Art of It: Three Novellas (2011), published as an ebook; Early Work: Poems 2000-2007 (2011), These Hands Are Not Ours (ESAW,2009), winner of the Earl of Seacliff Poetry Prize; Becoming Someone Who Isn’t (ESAW, 2007); and The Smell of Oranges (ESAW, 2003).
