About this title

In Lovesong for Dufur, Penelope Scambly Schott tells the intriguing story of buying a modest old house in an out-of-the-way, east-of-the-mountains Oregon town. The town, Dufur, is small enough that everyone knows what necessities are in the food bank," toilet paper and laundry soap," and "who shot whom." It is the sort of town people often refer to as in the middle of nowhere, but she falls in love with the place and makes it her own, affirming that "There is No Blue Like This Blue Sky over Dufur." These charming and original poems are enough to make you want to go in search of your own alternate life in the wonderful Western nowhere.

About the Author:

Penelope Scambly Schott is the author of a novel, eight full-length poetry books, and five previous chapbooks. Her verse biography A is for Anne: Mistress Hutchinson Disturbs the Commonwealth won an Oregon Book Award for Poetry. Her most recent book, Crow Mercies, received the Sarah Lantz Memorial Prize. Besides her new chapbook from Windfall Press, Lovesong for Dufur, she has a new book called Lillie Was a Goddess, Lillie Was a Whore. Penelope lives with her husband in Portland, although she and her dog spend part of each week in Dufur. She teaches an annual poetry workshop at the Balch Hotel in Dufur.
