In 1913, Lucindas grandparents and their twin boys Hovan and Garo escape from Turkey. Garo gets lost on their journey and lands in America. Hovan and his parents settle in France. Everyone assumes Garo is dead except his mother who secretly writes him heart-breaking letters and hides them. In 1938, Lucinda, Hovans daughter, marries Peter in France. Soon after both their families take a cruise, a storm rages and everyone on board drowns. A year later, Lucinda and Peter come to America and settle in Rhode Island. They have two children. In 1953, two years after Peter passes away, Lucinda is diagnosed with a heart condition. Her search begins. During her search she sees a sign that reads, GARO who has been assumed dead. She enters the restaurant with the sign and sees two enlarged photographs hanging on the wall. A woman approaches her and introduces herself as Helena, Garos daughter. Helena then introduces Lucinda to her husband, Berj, and to Vasken, their friend. Lucinda explains her sad story and asks to meet Garo. Berj calls her a con-artist, after money and demands proof of her identity. At the same time, Vasken and Lucinda appear to be smitten with each other. Helena makes arrangements for Lucinda to meet Garo against Bergs approval. When Lucindas arrives, seconds later Garo, a widower, walks into the room unaware of Lucindas existence. They immediately recognize each other and run into each others arms simultaneously laughing, crying and talking. Lucinda invites them to her home in Providence and shows them proof of her identity. She tells Garo, a physician, about her illness. Lucinda and Garo spend endless hours exchanging stories and reading his mothers letters. About the Author: Anna Alra DerSarkisian is first generation American-Armenian whose parents were born in (Western Armenia) in Turkey. They fled to America and settled in New England. Anna was born and raised in Lowell, Massachusetts. She moved to California in the late fifties and resides in West Los Angeles, California. This is her first novel.
