The 19th-century vogue for Villon's poetry produced most of these remarkable translations, with Leonie Adams following in Swinburne's and Rossetti's footsteps in the first half of the 20th century. Illustrated with robustly earthy woodcuts done in two colors by Howard Simon, the work was designed and printed by Joseph Blumenthal at Spiral Press, and bound by George McKibbon & Son in full tan buckram with a gilt-stamped leather spine label. This is one of 1500 copies printed, signed by the artist. Folio. , 103, pp.; illus. Bibliography of the Fine Books Published by the Limited Editions Club, 43. Binding as above; spine somewhat darkened with one corner of the label chipped, in original slipcase with some staining and chipping. Bookseller Inventory #
