Hardcover first edition - First printing. A detailed study of Barotse magical beliefs and practices made by the author in his capacity of Keeper of Ethnography to the Rhodes Livingstone Museum. In 1956 and 1957 there was a sudden increase in then number of cases of witchcraft brought before the Courts in Barotseland in Northern Rhodesia and when it ended, there had been 1200 such cases. Illustrated with photographs, line drawings, tables and two maps. Number 3 in the Robins series, edited by Gervase Clay. Index. xix, 182 pp. Very good in very good dust jacket (there is a 'discarded' stamp on the front endpaper, but no other signs of this being a library copy, overall very clean and tight, two closed tears to the front cover of the dj).
