Description:

Wren, P. C. THE MAN OF A GHOST. London: John Murray, (1937). First Edition (so stated). Very Good copy (bowed, red cloth faded at top of spine but otherwise showing little if any wear) in a Very Good example of the scarce original dust jacket (spine faded, a little chipped at the spine tips, slightly soiled). Nice eye appeal. Not price-clipped. Great content: set in the NW frontier of India but touches on forbidden Afghanistan and the growing power of Russian influence on the region. Features a British Secret Service along with a protagonist who was once a member of an Indian Lancer Regiment but has now "gone native.". Bookseller Inventory #

Book Description John Murray, London, 1949. Hardback. Book Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good+. Reprint. THE MAN OF A GHOST P. C. Wren. John Murray Publishers, London. 1949 Reprint 384pp Hardback P. C. Wren (1875 - 1941) is probably best remembered as the author of the much filmed ‘Beau Geste’ (1924) a romantic adventure of life in the French Foreign Legion but this was not his first book, he had already written sixteen novels and non fiction books. He went on to write many more, over fifty in fact. Wren could construct a first class plot and had a sure touch with dialogue that was salty and humorous. He could handle quick action and create memorable characters. Many of these books are now sadly out of print so second hand copies are now very collected. I am selling over thirty P C Wren novels and short story collections on this site. This story originall published in February 1937 is set chiefly in the country beyond the North-West Frontier of India and tells of the experiences and adventures of a British Officer of an Indian Lancer regiment (Napier's Horse), who, for what he considered good and sufficient reasons, turned Pathan, and lived with the tribesmen as one of themselves. This copy is in FINE condition, bright and tight the unclipped dustwrapper has evidence of one or two closed tears and is lightly sunned to the spine. It has been covered in clear protective Librafilm which is adhered to the paste downs. Ref N6 Size: 384pp. Bookseller Inventory # 004217
