Thick 12 mo. (20 cm.) xv, 409p. Rubricated title page. Maroon cloth with gilt letters and decorations on the front cover and the spine and with a black and white photo pictorial onlay to the front cover of Compte de Palluau et de Frontenac in full 17th century dress with a sword at his side. The name "Frontenac" is blind stamped beneath the pictorial onlay. Some wear to extremities with two corners just barely rubbed through, top and bottom of spine somewhat rubbed and showing signs of wanting to fray, some spotting to covers, pictorial onlay very slightly rubbed, spine gilt slightly dulled, cover gilt bright, else very good to near fine with no internal markings. No dust jacket. Compte de Palluau et de Frontenac [Louis de Buade [1620-1698] was a French soldier and colonial governor who served as governor of New France (Canada, 1672-1682 and 1689-1698). In New France he encouraged explorations, forced the English to lift the siege of Quebec (1690), and fought against the Iroquois. John Hampden Burnham [1860-1940] was also the author of CANADIANS IN THE IMPERIAL AND NAVAL MILITARY SERVICE ABROAD (1891) and JACK RALSTON, OR THE OUTBREAK OF THE NAUSCOPEES (1902).
