About the Book

We're sorry; this specific copy is no longer available. Here are our closest matches for MARLENE DIETRICH / THE BLONDE VENUS (1932) Portrait.

Vintage original 10 x 8" (25 x 20 cm.) black-and-white single weight glossy silver gelatin print still photo, USA. Marlene Dietrich, Cary Grant, Herbert Marshall, Dickie Moore, dir: Josef von Sternberg; Paramount. In her fourth American film, Dietrich was portrayed as a kind of goddess, though one which went through the gamut of human emotion and characterizations. Her tour de force had her playing a faithful (and unfaithful) wife, mother, vagrant, prostitute, cabaret performer and international stage star. A brilliant example of the extravagant lengths the Hollywood studio system went to in promoting their stars were the lovely, superbly-lit portraits they would do for each film -- this being a prime example. It is coded P1167-157. Don English is credited for images taken on the set of the actors in character, but all were under the direction of Von Sternberg. Original Paramount Publix, New York, information is typed on the verso, in English and Spanish. A bit of creasing at the corners only. NEAR FINE. Bookseller Inventory #
