Minor wear to extremities with nothing rubbed through, slightly faded spot near bottom of front cover, else very good to near fine with no internal markings. No dust jacket. Jean Helion [1904-1987] was a French painter and author, who eventually moved to the United States. At the outbreak of WWII, Hélion returned to France and joined the armed forces. He was taken prisoner in 1940and held on a prison ship at Stettin an der Oder (now Szczecin, Poland) until February 13, 1942, when he escaped. He made his way to Paris and back home to America, where he spoke on radio and in lecture halls in support of Free France. This book about his experiences as a prisoner of war became a best seller.
