About this Item

Ben Hogan never wrote a sequel to his classic Five Lessons book, but this one comes as close as any. Schlee was an ardent fan and student of the great master, having spent several months working with Hogan in 1969 and intermittently for four years thereafter and mentions his teachings throughout the book. Schlee was an apt student: in 1966, his first year on the tour he was named Rookie of the Year and in 1973 he was sitting in the clubhouse iin the U. S. Open with the final lead until Johnny Miller shot his record last round of 63 to bolt ahead of him. Schlee's career was cut short when it was discovered that his bad back was due to bad luck: he had been born with an extra vertebrate. In 1978, after leading the first round of the Masters he could hardly get out of bed, finished in severe pain, and retired to a teaching career. He teaches all the Hogan principles to the letter and adds his own touch to some. For a tall golfer he had an unusually flat swing and a very weak grip. This book has a plastic comb binding but with a tough laminated cover. Only a touch of wear, but a dozen or so pages have passages highlighted with a colored marker or some underlining. Now very hard to find. Bookseller Inventory # 003216
