Previous owner was Burton Benedict (1923-2010), a professor emeritus of social anthropology at UC Berkeley and former director of the Phoebe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology. Benedict conducted his early anthropological fieldwork in the Indian Ocean island territories of Mauritius and Seychelles. No other markings in book. Binding is tight. William Halse Rivers Rivers (1864â"1922) was an English anthropologist, neurologist, ethnologist and psychiatrist, best known for his work with soldiers during World War I who were suffering from shell shock. Rivers's most famous patient was the poet Siegfried Sassoon. He is also famous for his participation in the Torres Straits trip of 1898, and his consequent seminal work on the subject of kinship.
