Description:

Vintage original 11 x 14" (28 x 35 cm.) title lobby card, USA. Barbara Stanwyck, Gary Cooper, Edward Arnold, Walter Brennan, Spring Byington, James Gleason, dir: Frank Capra, Warner Brothers. Nice portrait of Gary Cooper posing as John Doe and Barbara Stanwyck as Ann Mitchell, the opportunist reporter who takes advantage of the down-and-out John Doe, but also falls in love with him. When fired, she fakes a letter from an unemployed John Doe threatening suicide. She is rehired, and John Willoughby impersonates the false character, but the scheme backfires when a political movement starts supporting the John Doe philosophy. A powerful statement about the power of the media and its hypocrisy. The first of Capra's independently-produced films, he filmed five different endings. Linen-textured card is outstanding. There are two pinholes at the top left corner, one at the top right and minor creasing at the bottom left corner. There is also some minor inner-creasing to the left of the title treatment.
