With oversize portfolio containing a vinyl recording of Miller Brittain's voice, two photo-silkscreens -- each embossed with the printer's signature, a number matching the book, and a 'MGB' estate stamp initialled by Cecilia Toomik, artistic director of the Miller Brittain collection -- and a wonderful matted and mounted drawing, signed and dated by the artist, suitable for framing. fine One of the 25 copies within an already limited print run that were numbered in Roman numerals; this copy is number 'XIV'. Includes a pencil drawing, 39cm X 28.5cm, of a male nude turning away from the viewer. The drawing -- neatly signed and dated 1956 by the artist -- is hinged and mounted onto a matte board with an overlaying matte window. Widely regarded as one of Canada's best artists, Miller Brittain (1912-1968) lived in New Brunswick during most of his career. He joined the Royal Canadian Airforce during WWII and served as a Canadian war artist. On his return he helped found the Federation of Canadian Artists in 1941. It was after the war that his paintings began taking on a surreal quality. His works can be found in private collections and galleries worldwide, including the National Gallery of Canada.
