Largely through private financing, the tunnel was completed in 1878 and became immediately profitable. Sutro sold his interest the following year Lacking facsimile letter, as already noted. Some staining and wear to covers, title inked to blank spine, a few smudges to text, frontispiece and folding plates quite clean and unworn. A presentable volume in nearly very good condition.
