American first edition (per matching dates upon title and copyright pages). i-xii, 13-338, 1-18, pages. Hardcover: H 19.75cm x L 13.5cm. Original cloth which appears to have once been muted purple at board centers but now with color fading to light brown toward board edges and to spine, shallow staining at tops of boards, spine ends bumped with short tears at head, spine's gilt lettering dulled but still legible. Edges toned; light moisture stain to top edge affecting rear third of leaves at their upper margins; foxing and toning most prevalent to initial and rear leaves with some scattered soiling and stains; top fore-edge corner of pages 77-78 creased from past fold-down. Binding still retains some crispness. Still an attractive very good antiquarian copy. With publisher's advertisements on light yellow endpapers along with 18+1 pages of publisher's ads at book's rear.
