FIRST EDITION. INSCRIBED BY EUGENIA SMITH, the illustrator, as follows: "Best wishes Gerry/ Eugenia Smith Newton." Illustrated with unuaual and charming illustrations by Eugenia Smith. 12mo. 64pp. Maroon cloth with gilt letters on the spine and with gilt bar decorations that run from the front cover to the back cover and with a black and white pictorial onlay (which repeats an illustration in the book) to the front cover¿a very handsome binding. Fine with no internal markings. Dust jacket slightly darkened around the edges, else near fine and not price-clipped. Born in Illinois, Sarah Trousdale Mallory earned her B.A. in Philosophy in the University of Idaho. She taught school in Idaho and Utah before going to the University of Wyoming to serve on the English faculty. She was the author of at least three other books of poetry and her home was in Laramie, Wyoming. Eugenia Everett Smith Newton [1908-1993], of Loveland, Colorado; Hawthorne and Ojai, California; and Salt Lake City, was a printmaker and sculptor of marble heads in a stylized art deco manner who was active in local exhibitions of the 1930s and '40s. In 1932, she studied with Roger N. Burnham and Merrel Gage and at Chouinard and Otis Institutes, and then had a solo show at the Art Barn in 1934.
