About this Item

12mo. (21 cm.) ii, 403p. Black cloth blocked in green and with green letters on the front cover and the spine. Very minor wear to extremities with a couple of corners just barely worn through, cloth clean, letters bright, else very good to near fine with no internal markings. While this book is obviously fiction, it is somewhat hard to describe. Some have described it as "mysticism" or as "science fiction" or "mystery". Here is a paragraph from the text, which will give you some idea of the contents: "Moaning Canyon was the place in the surroundings which most attracted Sumaj. Daily he led his flock to this weird spot; and, sitting on a flat stone, he would listen to the groaning that came from the depths of the canyon. He believed he actually was listening to the voices of human beings, who were suffering, as he was; and his sympathy for their pain caused him to forget his own misery." [p. 29] There is much that appears to be the unknown author's take on human relations and behavior. According to a review in the Spokane Daily Chronicle, Dec. 7, 1931, " 'Moaning Canyon' is not strictly a novel; it is more a preachment or a sermon--a treatise which carries the reader through many phases of life.".
